Let’s talk about bad breath, or “February is Pet Dental Health Month!”

Proper dental care can detect dental disease that not only affects the mouth, but can also lead to more serious health problems such as heart, lung, and kidney disease. Good dental hygiene is just as important for pets as it is for humans. Yet, it is one of the most overlooked areas in pet health.

Your dog’s or cat’s teeth need care and cleaning just like your own teeth do. If you take care of your pet’s teeth, he will have a beautiful smile and sweet-smelling breath!

Pets whose teeth are neglected can develop tartar and plaque. Tartar and plaque cause cavities and decay. Your dog or cat may require surgery or have teeth pulled.

What Can You Do?

  1. Check your dog’s teeth every month.
  2. Brush your dog’s teeth with a toothbrush and special toothpaste for dogs.
  3. Start early; puppies that are introduced to brushing early in life are typically a breeze to brush later in life.
  4. Find out what your dog likes! Chicken flavored toothpaste doesn’t work for every dog 🙂
